4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FROM CASABLANCA TO MERZOUGA DESERT

DAY 1 : CASABLANCA-RABAT- MEKNES – FES :

For the first day of the trip we will depart from Casablanca and head towards Fez. Throughout the day we will pass by many fascinating imperial cities like Rabat the capital of Morocco, Meknes which used to be also the capital of the Ismaili dynasty, we will lunch there and take off to Fez one of the first built cities in Morocco famous for its heritage. We will spend the night in one of its traditional hotels and have a yummy breakfast there.

DAY 2: FES – ­ IFRAN ­- AZROU­ – MERZOUGA DESERT­ CAMEL TREKKING.G.

At around 8 am we will hit the road to Erg Chebbi desert. Quite yet we will drive by many formidable landscapes like Ziz valley and Ziz gorges, many charming villages like Midelt and Errachidia. We will also drive through the road that leads to oued Ziz. Along the road you will be able to capture the magic of giant caves carved in the cliff, you will also see the Hassan Addakhil dam, which was completed 1971, the dam is a water provider for the regions of  Errachidia. We will stop at Erfoud (the ancient garrison to many towns) to take a break from the road and then continue towards Merzouga desert where we will rejuvenate with a fresh cup of mint tea. As soon as we rest we will resume to the nomad camps , it would only take 40 mins on the backs of camels to arrive to the desired location. We will be mounting the dunes and watching the sunset reflecting upon the picks of high dunes. As we arrive we will find giant occupied tents in the heart of sahara we will have a traditional dinner with charming people and under a vast starry sky.

DAY 3 : CAMEL TREK – RISSANI – TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY :

Make sure to get up early as to watch the magnificent sunrise upon the golden dunes of sahara. After having a peaceful moment we will go back to the hotel where you will take a shower and have a tasty breakfast. As for today’s schedule we will be driving around the region. We will start off  by  exploring  Rissani and sisjlmassa which were once the capital of Tafilalt region and also a very important trade center. It was founded at around 757 by the great Arab leader Moussa Ben Nasser, the region was considered important for trade because it laid on the length of the sahel Europe trade route, people were trading gold, and many goods. Besides it contains some major archeological sites like the roman ruins between the village and the river. It also contains an exquisite Kasbah built by Moulay Ismail which unfortunately had been destroyed by Ait Atta tribe in 1818.  The region is rich of history, it used also to be the home for the current ruling dynasty the Alaouits before they gained the Moroccan territory in the 17th century. After exploring a little bit of  history and south Moroccan culture we will have lunch in Todgha gorges and drive upwards to the magnificent Dades valley in which we will have dinner and spend the night at.

 

DAY 4 : DADES VALLEY – OUARZAZATE – AIT BENHADDOU – MARRAKECH:

For our fourth day our journey will continue as we take short walk in the gorges to explore the beauty of nature in southern part of Morocco. On our way to Ouarzazat we will drive by Dades valley, Kalaat Mgouna also known as the capital of flowers, each year in may or June its local inhabitants host a ceremony the rose festival in which they crown young girls and celebrate their floral productions.  Our journey still proceeds as we go along the 1000thousand Kasbah route, valley of roses. At lunch time we will stop at Ait Benhadou a small well known village for its cinematic location for movies like the Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia….. It is also a unesco heritage site. As soon as we finish exploring the exquisite site we will hit the road again to Marrakech via Tizi n Tichka mountain pass. As the sun sets we will be found in the heart of Marrakech and that’s where our journey ends.
